Upconversion and the Second Laser Threshold.
A.M. Lemeza, A.A. Afanas'ev, R.A. Vlasov, and S.Y. Mikhnevich

A linear stability analysis of the Lorenz-laser equations with additional channel of relaxation of upconversion type is presented. It is demonstrated that the second laser threshold is significantly reduced due to the upconversion process, while the first laser threshold remains unchanged. It is found that the bad-cavity condition is not necessary for the Hopf bifurcation to occur.
Key words: upconversion, laser thresholds
