We briefly review our kinetic model of chaotic
transport in Hamiltonian systems and show how a generalized
version of the same formal model can be applied to physically very
different cases. We analyze two issues: the conditions leading to
the Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution in systems with many degrees of
freedom and the energy transport in the Sabra shell model of
turbulence. We conclude that our crude toy models may serve as a
step towards a consistent microscopic treatment of the above
problems, and complex and non-equilibrium systems in general.
