NONLINEAR PHENOMENA IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS
An Interdisciplinary Journal

2015, Vol.18, No.2

Preface

Dear colleagues! This special issue presents the proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Foundations & Advances in Nonlinear Science and of the 2nd Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Photonics held on Belarusian State University in Minsk from the 29th September to the 3rd October 2014. These events have attracted more than 80 scientists from 15 countries including Russia, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Serbia, Armenia, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, and Belarus. The topics of the conference involve the theoretical and applied aspects of self-organization and nonlinear dynamics characteristic for complex systems.

The distinguishing feature of the science subjects discussed during these events was their interdisci- plinary character. The participants had an opportunity to join free and fruitful discussions in var- ious .elds of nonlinear science and nonlinear photonics including such new research trends as non- linear optical phenomena and laser dynamics, nanomaterials, nanophotonics and nanotechnology, novel materials for nonlinear photonics, self-organization and cooperative phenomena, spatiotem- poral structures, patterns in complex media, high energy physics, etc. We are glad to participation in conference of the graduates of the Belarusian State University, both the renowned scientists and the young researchers facing their .rst success in science. A complete program of the events may be found at the web site:
http://fans.j-npcs.org.

A multidisciplinary character of the International Conference on Foundations & Advances in Non- linear Science that is traditionally organized in Belarus makes it possible to invite the researchers and experts from di.erent .elds to share their experience and opinions, to present the latest results of studies conducted in the CIS-countries and abroad. The International Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Photonics is held for the second time but attracts ever growing interest due to the fact that during the period of 60 years the Belarusian scienti.c schools in optics and laser physics have gained the world recognition. We hope that this special issue may be useful for the members of scienti.c community, providing new information about modern trends of the interdisciplinary research activities realized all over the world.
