H. A. El-Saify

The control problem for a system governed by the Dirichlet and Neumann problems for a self-adjoint elliptic operator of -th order with an infinite number of variables is formulated using a pervious results in [3,4] and the theory of J.L.Lions [6]. The control variable in the case of the Dirichlet problem is of distributed type and the observation is defined on the boundary. For the Neumann problem the boundary control problem is also formulated. A characterization of the optimal control are given by a set of inequalities in terms of the adjoint system.
Key words: elliptic system, operators with an infinite number of variables, optimal control problem
