Simple One-Dimensional Optical Logic Elements Based on Nonlinear Photonic Crystal.

We demonstrate the possibility of optical logic operations in a simple one-dimensional structure consisting of nonlinear photonic crystal. A resonant two-level medium is taken as nonlinear one, while, for input signals, ultrashort light pulses are used. Depending on intensity of input pulses, fast (with bit rate from 10 up to 160 Gbit/s) AND-, OR- and NOT-gates are demonstrated.
