Averaged over an active medium (point) and spatially distributed
models of Yb:Er laser with essentially spatial nonuniform energy
distribution of pump are considered in detail numerically. It is
shown that the point model cannot provide correct laser output
characteristics. The distributed model presented allows to find
the limit of applicability of the point model and proposes a way
of the system parameters optimization to maximize lasing
efficiency.
