NONLINEAR PHENOMENA IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS
An Interdisciplinary Journal

2017, Vol.20, No.1

Preface

Dear colleagues!

This special issue presents the proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Foundations & Advances in Nonlinear Science and of the 3rd Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Photonics held September 27 - October 1, 2016 at the Belarusian State University in Minsk. These events have attracted more than 80 scientists from 16 countries including Russia, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, and Belarus. The topics of the Conference involve the theoretical and applied aspects of self-organization and nonlinear dynamics characteristic for complex systems. The distin- guishing feature of the scientific subjects discussed during these events was their interdisciplinary character. A complete program of the events may be found at the web site: http:fans.j-npcs.org.

The papers collected in this issue cover such research trends as nonlinear optical phenomena and laser dynamics, plasmonics and metamaterials, photonic crystals, nanomaterials, nanophotonics and nanotechnology, novel materials for nonlinear photonics, waveguides, microcavities and non- linear optical fibers, extreme and relativistic nonlinear optics, optical solitons and supercontinuum, self-organization and cooperative phenomena, spatiotemporal structures, patterns in complex me- dia, classical and quantum chaos, high energy physics, nonlinear dynamics in chemistry, biology, economics, and social sciences.

A multidisciplinary character of the International Conference on Foundations & Advances in Non- linear Science traditionally organized in Belarus makes it possible to invite the researchers and experts from di erent fields to share their experience and opinions, to present the latest results of studies conducted in the CIS-countries and abroad. The International Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Photonics held for the third time attracts ever growing interest due to the fact that during the period of 60 years the Belarusian scientific schools in optics and laser physics have gained the world-wide recognition. We hope that this special issue may be useful for the members of scientific community, providing new information about modern trends in the interdisciplinary research activities realized all over the world.
